Hello Jenny,

In addition to what Genevieve said, to get an initial idea of the gravity of
the situation, I would start by checking all your organic material stored near
where you found the moths in the sticky traps; especially any wool textiles,
animal pelts/furs, or taxidermy items. Also, I would suggest not moving items
stored there until you determine if you have an active problem - it is very
easy to introduce the issue to new spaces by accidentally transferring eggs or
larvae on an affected item.

The organization I work at has been dealing with a webbing clothes moth issue
that was fairly serious when we discovered it in 2021. After the initial
triage, the methods Genevieve mentioned below really helped us manage the
situation with limited resources. Feel free to reach out to me if you want to
discuss our mitigation process further.

Best,
L

Hello Jenny,

I think they could be case making clothes moths. Hopefully someone else can
help confirm this.

If they really are then making sure you have adequate traps to help make sure
you can pinpoint where they are coming from can be helpful. If pheromone lures
are in your budget they can be exceptionally helpful locating where a problem
is through tactical deployment to see where you get the most catches. Once you
find out if/where the problem is then cleaning, additional housekeeping, and
freezing/anoxic treatments will hopefully clear things up.

I'm sure others on the list will have additional advice

Best of luck,
Genevieve

Subject: [PestList] clothes moths?

Hello,

I have just found these two moths on a sticky trap in one of our hallways
adjacent to collections storage. I'm afraid they are clothes moths. Can anyone
confirm? Also, if they are clothes moths, what precautions should we take?

Thank you for any help.
