Just a modification to the answer because fascicle refers to the adult mosquito
unit of 6 mouth part stylets.

"1) The tuft of hairs at the end… three distinct brush-like tail tufts
(“fascicles”) that protrude backward.classic varied carpet beetle."
The bundled hastisetae could be fasciculate hastisetae.

>From the Torre-Bueno Glossary of Entomology (2018-PDF version):

  *
fascicle, in adult Culicidae (Diptera), the closely appressed bundle of 6
needlelike mouthparts (stylets), including the labrum, 2 mandibles, 2 laciniae,
and the hypopharynx, which form the piercing-siphoning apparatus (Harbach and
Knight, in Robinson).
  *
fascicula (pl., fasciculae), a bundle of muscle fibers (T-B).
  *
fasciculate, fasciculatus, bundled; clustered as in a bundle; tufted;
superficially covered with bundles of long hair (T-B).
  *
fasciculate antenna, one in which every joint has a distinct pencil or
fascicule of long hairs (T-B).

Subject: Re: [PestList] carpet beetle larva ID

EXTERNAL SENDER

This is a varied carpet beetle larva for several reasons:

1) The tuft of hairs at the end… three distinct brush-like tail tufts
(“fascicles”) that protrude backward.classic varied carpet beetle

2) Varied carpet beetle larvae are carrot-shaped or tear-shaped, tapering
toward the head.

3) The image shows alternating light/dark banding along the body—a classic
Varied Carpet Beetle pattern.

Hello! Is this the larva of a varied carpet beetle or a furniture carpet

Thanks very much,
