I'm doing quite a bit of work now with osCommerce on GNU/Linux
(more enquiries welcome). There's a version 3 in public beta
IIRC, which I've not yet tested and it's usually good to be
conservative with live sites. I did a OSC/ZenCart/CRELoaded
comparison a while ago which I'll put on work's web site when I
get a round tuit (and I'm being far too conservative in updating
work's web site...), but the long and short of it is: I'd use
CRELoaded for a new deployment today, but watch for OSC3.

osCommerce 2's innards are a bit untidy, but the main problem
is that most live sites have several contributions installed,
usually undocumented, each of them written in a different
style, often invading each other's changes and doing slightly
incompatible things. It would make your software engineering
lecturer scream about cohesion and coupling and cry into
their beer. My first act when taking on a site is to try
to reconstruct the Changelog and figure out what's in it.
I've yet to find two sites the same... viva diversity.

Mostly they work, but I'm hoping 3 will be much better.

Hope that helps,
