Relating to this, please can someone recommend a good payment gateway to use for credit card transactions. Also I am getting mixed messages regarding the setup of a merchant account.

The way I understood it was that if one wanted to take credit cards in a shop or offline, they apply for a merchant account, rent or buy the terminal unit and process the payments manually. But, if one only wanted to only take online payments, one would sign up with a payment gateway (such as Paypal or SECPay) and they would handle the entire process of credit card -> bank account insertion. However, on reading the SECPay website, you still need to get a Online Merchant Account from a high-street bank. This implies it is different to a regular business bank account.

I'm sure there are members here who have already done this, so please can you let me know if there are providers who can make this easier, and give me a list of the steps needed to take VISA / Mastercard credit cards from online orders.
