Got it!
The command is:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo mount //192.168.1.18/data /mnt/backup -o
username=username,password=password
The reason our previous attempts were failing was that I was asking it
to go to //192.168.1.18/data/DadsLinux a subdir of ../data/
It seems I can only mount at the top level - am I right or am I wrong!?!?

Stuart,
I installed smbfs and gave this command:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo mount -t smb //mini/data/DadsLinux/ /mnt/backup
-ousername=admin%admin
and got:
5997: tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnosuchshare (You specified an
invalid share name)
This looks a bit more hopeful!
I have checked for capitalisation, spaces, etc and all seems OK!
Surely this cannot be as hard as all that?!?!
Ideas anyone?
And thanks
Ed

No wait .... Looking further down I DO have the smbclient installed!
However looking even further down the list I not smbfs - described as
"mount and unmount commands for the smbfs (for kernels >= than 2.2.x)
Try installing this and see if that helps?
