When I set it up in the workshop at the meeting, from memory the steps were:
- Install Beryl through apt-get or gui
- Use Desktop Effects to enable it
It all hinges on the graphics driver. Mine installed the proprietary
Nvidia driver on its own (at least I think it did - you'll recall I
messed around a bit because the old GX440 card in when I started wasn't
supported by the Nvidia driver). So check you are using the proprietary
ATI driver and if not install it first.
Oh, and make sure you've enabled all the repositories (I usually edit
/etc/apt/sources.list and remove the # from the start of every
repository line except the cdrom ones), but I assume there's a GUI
method too. I don;t recall having to do that at the meeting but I
probably do that bit in my sleep without even noticing.
