Do we have any news on this?

Meeting at our workshop is an option for this month if required. Since I've not attended (yet!) a meeting at the Rugby club I don't know how that would have worked with the number of people we had last meeting, but I assume it would be better?

If the majority agree then I will set about replacing the old web site
with the new one. Which leads me to my next question - has anybody any
experience of moving a Joomla site from one server to another?

I think the sooner it moves the better.

Process-wise: I think you can simply copy the database across (SQL export/import) and the files and it'll "just work" once you get any file or database permissions set correctly. You may have some paths to change in config files but that's usually fairly obvious and easy to do with vi/nano/whatever.

don't end up trashing the lot.

The existing site is pretty static so should be easy to backup/restore if necessary. If all else fails and we end up without a website at all until we get the new one working I'm not too concerned personally - better we get it done and risk failure than put it off, in my view (not a general view, but specific to this particular upgrade).

I am thinking of arranging a PLUG/LUG social event some time in August.
I was thinking something informal along the lines of booking the big
barbies at Ferry Meadows, everyone bringing something to cook and
something to drink (preferably alcohol) then cranking up the stereo
until the place shuts.

All sounds good! Somewhere without wireless access sounds like a great idea!

I would also point out that the beer festival is in August (21st - 26th), which I will make a point of attending as often as I can.
