Hmmm,
I just downloaded, tested, gave up and uninstalled Geany (see other
messages) in the time it took Eclipse to open.
Probably not for me, but I've not uninstalled it yet.
Just found Bluefish (http://bluefish.openoffice.nl, or "apt-get install
bluefish") which does support Gnome-VFS (ie direct editing of SMB
files), and which opened quickly. That doesn't constitute a thorough
test but it's the best so far!
(And "Save As" defaults to saving in the previous directory, not jumping
back to /home/mark all the time!)
