I also settled on LXF after looking at what was on offer. This is a well balanced mag, with plenty of stuff for users at all levels of expertise. I previously subscribed to PC Plus, but having abandoned MS I was also happy to leave that magazine behind, since it had become pretty boring. I think LXF succeeds because it's put together by people who are still very enthusiastic about their subject. So many of the journalists writing about Windows are jaded and just recycling press releases.
By the way, if you haven't tried it yet, the Ubuntu 7.10 distro on the LXF disk this month is excellent. It has a huge amount of useful packages included, which don't come with the Canonical download. I just added a few extra favourites, such as Google Earth, K9 and Amarok, and have just succeeded in creating my first ISO backup DVD using Mondo, which is an excellent utility.
