Well guys, I have just placed my order and should have it in time for
Christmas. I have went with the iAudio D2 8GB + 8GB SD Card. While it
is limited to 8GB of internal storage, it was the multi platform & codec
support that leaned me in this direction. I was very tempted with the
Archos 605 160GB unit but it didn't support the codecs that I wanted.

Thanks to those who responded to my email(s) about the players. If I
don't post to the list before Christmas, I would like to wish everyone
here a very Merry Christmas and a Happy & safe New Year.

Regards,
Ben Hayes

There was a discussion on the latest episode of LUGRadio and they
mention the reason for lack of ogg support is that none of the DSPs have
the codec builtin for whatever reason. It is possible to add the codec
at the software level, but this chews the battery up. Prime case would
be the Archos, saying that though my N800 suffers from that disability
too.

Neuros have managed to get the toolchain from TexasInstruments (who make
the most of the DSP chips) as Open Source (minus the debugger), so
hopefully it wont be too long for people to be able to write their own
patches to the firmware to enable additional codecs.

Sorry I'm all spent, did you put it on your list and ask Santa? ;)

Andy
