Another thing I thought of, why don't we start with a plain installation of
Windows eg XP, and see how much FOSS we can install on it to make it
productive, and get people into FOSS that way rather than promoting linux
directly?

After all this was the way i transitioned across, i had my windows box and I
installed firefox, thunderbird, AVG Free and OOo, before you know it I had
actually made my Linux box my main box without realising it - it had all the
same software as on my windows box, I even installed WinVi!!

I think an installfest like this, maybe comparing the above with a basic
install of ubuntu to show what comes "in the box" with linux would be a
great intro to foss for the uninitiated?

We could time the whole thing, (since ubuntu comes bundled with most of what
you need anyway it will win hands down) haha
