+1 for Solus in either MATE or Budgie desktop flavour. A traditional
desktop layout that is pretty, functional and really quick (really really
really quick). It's built from the ground up (ie not a Ubuntu derivative)
as a rolling release and the pace of development is very fast since it's
developer left Intel to work on it full time. Software choice is more
limited than Debian/Ubuntu based distros but snap support has just been
added. It's my daily driver on my laptop and desktop and my 70+ parents are
more than happy with it.
