Jonathan,
trying to run XSane gives a message that 'no scanner detected' and when
I tried to install iscan using the 'install-sh' script I get a message
saying that the command is not recognised. It was this that set me off
trying to find out why XSane could not detect the scanner and I found
that it was not detected as a USB device. If I could get the scanner
detected as a USB device I suspect the XSane and Iscan will work correctly.

Hi Iain,
What software are you trying to scan from? I would assume a scanner would
"just work" and try something like LibreOffice and then some command-line
utility (imagescan, iscan, sane?) to see if I have any luck with those.
