Actually he does not have a point, and is the one being offensive.
Here is how i see this.
A while back I wanted to make some simple changes to my existing OpenBSD
based firewall that I built and has worked very well for several years.
Members of this list were mostly unhelpful, and recommended that i upgrade to
the newer pf based system. Now one of the reasons I chose OpenBSD (actually
the reason I replaced a FreeBSD machine doing this) was that I felt I needed
to spend too much time keeping the FreeBSD machine up to date to avoid
vulnerabilities in it as they were discovered.
Since this is my only way of connecting, this task was fraught with risk for
me.
I allocated a day or 2 of my Christmas vacation to this task.
I installed OpenBSD with relatively little problem (the only real problem
was that the machine I was using wad old, and could not boot the 8G drive
under OpenBSD, even though it has no problem booting FreeBSD on that disk.
Then I asked about conversion utilities to covert my exiting nat ipf rules
files, and was told that there were none. I asked for examples and was
pointed to a _very_ small set of examples. I recall that when I did the
original there were many, many examples to look at.
I started with one of the examples, and ran into major problems. I could
not get a ruleset that worked at all in "default deny" mode. I asked about
fwbuilder (which does support OpenBSD, and pf) and was laughed at.
I finally scraped all that I had done, and stared over, and finally came up
with something that was working enough that I could at least put it in
place, at the cost of reduced functionality.
I started asking specific questions about specific problems, and mostly
what I got from the list was abuse, and then this ***%$# person starts
personnel attacks on me.
