If you search the list archives you will find plenty
of discussion about hardware requirements along the lines
of your question.

My understanding is that many people are using OpenBSD in your
sort of environment. However, every site is different so
the best thing to do would be to install OpenBSD on some
computer you've already got, try to get the configuration
right and try it out in a test environment and see how it
performs. You're going to need to test things out anyway
if you're new to OpenBSD before you go into production.
You may well find that your test box will perform beyond
expectations. Regardless, you can just move the drive
and whatever NICs you've got into a larger box when
you need to go live.
