* sk(4)-based NICs have the best performance
* one dedicated data-bus per NIC (I think a PCI-E x8/x16 will be enough in my environment) * OpenBSD 4.2 PF's (it seems the performance has been improved until 50%!!! in relation to previous releases)

Ok. I understand that my search in previous list posts has been right, so the choosed hardware will be enough for my purposes.

more like 120% faster actually.

Cool!
A lot of thanks for your great work ;)

¿Can the hard-disk performance to mean a bootle-neck in the PF-based FW box? I understand the major part of PF operations are made in RAM memory, but maybe I'm not right.

memory speed is a factor.
hdd speed not, unless you want to log a _lot_.

So.. I'll try to get an DDR2 RAM at 600/800Mhz for the FW box.

¿Is it important also the error-control (AKA ECC memory error control technology)?
