I haven't worked with WebObjects, but I can definitely recommend
EAServer. PowerBuilder support aside, it offers a scaleable, secure and
reliable platform based on the open standards of Corba and J2EE and open
platform support (NT, Unix, Linux in beta). These are not just marketing
bullet item claims. The standards EAServer claims to support are at the
root of the product. EAServer can stand up to any competitor based on the
merits of scaleability, open standards support, dynamic load balancing and
so on.
I forgot to mention COM support. Not only you can deploy COM components,
but you can also call EAServer hosted logic from IIS hosted ASP
pages. Take a look at the set of tutorials at
http://www.powerobjects.com/jaguar.htm .
On top of all that if you have any experience in PowerBuilder and are
currently ramping up on Java, EAServer offers a unique opportunity to use
your current skills and concentrate on what is really important - design
issues specific to the distributed web application environment.
Also if you are considering using EAServer I strongly suggest you attend
the DevelopIT conference (March 21-22)
http://www.pbug.co.uk/ Some of the speakers on EAServer topics are Dave
Wolf, Christophe Coenraets, Bill Heys, and Ken Howe.
