More on ".web"
On further thought, I think the key is that the term "web" has become
wedded to the concept of web sites viewed via browsers, while much
actual usage is now tied to apps where "web" is not actually a highly
visible aspect of the user experience. I suspect this carries over to
.web as a TLD, and why it feels a bit archaic. It's less likely that
.com will suffer this fate, since it is not intrinsically tied to
"web" (or any other particular modality of Internet usage) and of
course has a massive historical advantage. -L
