Hi Marc,
sorry about double posting. I though others may like to be aware of a gotcha
for unwary players - like me.
As I mentioned - no problems at all compiling 6.5.
Moved the original local/pgsql directory out of the way and installed the
new.
I came in this afternoon and did the following:
cd pgsql
chown -R *
bin/ipcclean
postmaster -i ( whoopeee, it started... no error messages)
as it is now running in command line mode, ie, not in the background, log in
as postgres on another terminal and
psql -e template1 < db.out
yahoooo, it did it.. :-)
quit
back to other terminal and ^c to stop the postmaster running
back to rc.d and start pgsql.sh as the root user - the .sh script switches
to postgres and runs the postmaster.
starts no worries
back to the PC, open the bookshp - search for a book - and FAST - wow.
Leaves 6.4 for dead.
looking good for launch...
Thanks for the pointers folks -
much appreciated.
