[GENERAL] rtree indexes aren't being used with 7.0

i've started testing version 7 with my databases (dumped and restored
from a 6.5.3 install) and it seems that none of the queries are
utilizing the rtree indexes like they should be.  can somebody comment
on why this would be happening?
