Hmm. Why would we use a GUC for this instead of an additional option to BEGIN TRANSACTION? I would think: BEGIN TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL {READ COMMITTED | SNAPSHOT | SERIALIZABLE} With our current levels being the first two of those.
