I was about to point you to http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/JSON_API_Brainstorm , only to realize you created that thing in the first place. There's http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/JSON_datatype_GSoC_2010 too. I don't think it's completely stuck in a cycle yet--every pass around seems to accumulate some better informed ideas than the last still.
