Simply uploading "safe" extension files (i.e. not native libraries) using the protocol seems narrower in scope and less controversial. However, I like the idea of putting extensions in the catalogs (aside from DSOs of course), too. Setting aside compatibility problems with existing extensions, do you think that's a reasonable goal to work toward, or do you think that's a dead end?
