The first Lent term meeting of the Philosophy of Biology Reading Group will take place at 2pm-3pm on Friday 20th January in the HPS Lodge Seminar Room.
This term we will be reading _Evolution and the Levels of Selection_ by Samir Okasha (2006, OUP). The book is a brilliant introduction to the theory of multi-level selection, and will be particularly relevant to anyone with an interest in the evolution of altruism and cooperation. We will start with Chapter 1, 'Natural Selection in the Abstract'. The book is available on Amazon, for prices starting at £8.24. It can also be found in various libraries around the university. Note that, if your college library doesn't have it, they can probably buy it in for you. The full programme can be found here: http://www.hps.cam.ac.uk/seminars/biology.html All are very welcome to attend the meetings, including graduate students and staff from any department. Please let me know if you require directions to the room, or any other information. Best wishes Jonathan P.S. Philosophy of biology enthusiasts may also want to check out the Philosophy of Science Reading Group programme for this term, as several of the readings have a biological focus: http://www.hps.cam.ac.uk/seminars/pos.html _____________________________________________________ Sent by the CamPhilEvents mailing list.
