Dear all,

Please join us for the CamPoS (Cambridge Philosophy of Science) seminar

Wednesday 5th March 1-2:30pm in HPS Seminar Room 2.

Caterina Marchionni (Helskini) will give a talk entitled "Evidential
diversity and the triangulation of phenomena". The abstract is below.

Best wishes,

Christopher

Abstract: (Joint work with Jaakko Kuorikoski)

The paper argues for the epistemic rationale of triangulation, that is, the
use of multiple and independent sources of evidence to ascertain whether or
not a phenomenon is an artifact of a particular method. It claims
that triangulation is better understood as an epistemological strategy
employed for the purpose of controlling for the likely errors and biases of
particular data-generating procedures. It uses this perspective to address
four challenges that cast doubt on the epistemic significance of
triangulation.
