Dear all,

This Thursday at the Serious Metaphysics Group, Dan Brigham will be
presenting a talk entitled 'No Nonsense'. (Abstract below) As usual,
1.00-2.30pm at the philosophy faculty board room. Feel free to bring
lunch along.

As it will be week 8 of Easter term, this should be the last SMG meeting
for the academic year, but Arif Ahmed has arranged an extra meeting next
Thursday (16 June) at 12pm. More details will follow in a separate
email.

Lastly, to Philosophy graduate students who will be in Cambridge for the
next academic year, I am still looking for someone to take over running
the SMG. Do let me know if you might be interested or have any questions
about the role.

Best wishes,
Li Li

Abstract
Michael Jubien and Friederike Moltmann have recently tried to revive
Bertrand Russell's multiple relation theory of judgement. Although
Wittgenstein famously objected to Russell's theory on the grounds that
it fails to show that it is impossible to judge nonsense, neither Jubien
nor Moltmann discuss whether their own views are susceptible to the same
objection. On behalf of Jubien and Moltmann, I try to show that
contemporary defenders of the multiple relation theory can successfully
resist Wittgenstein, regardless of whether the same can be said for
Russell.
