I think we've pretty much beat this one to death. I imagine this is a
result of the "fixating" process locking the IDE bus as described in
point (1) in Matt Wilson's summary of how fubared things are on the CDR
front. But reading over the list off known issues from March 8th as
report by Mr. Wilson, I don't think there is all that much point in
continuing to be Mr. Wilson's "Dennis the Menace" on this issue. It's
pretty clear the code we have access to as beta testers is very much
broken. I know i see hard locks like Mr. Wilson described at the end of
his summary on my smp box. I'm really not sure how much more value we
can squeeze out of continuing to lock up our system with beta code we
know has serious issues,as of March 8th. There are so many known
issues, that its got to be difficult to pinpoint a new one. What yer
seeing could be fix with the changes Mr. Wilson described in his
summary...hard to tell.

Does it suck that we don't have new code to test to put our minds at ease? Yep.
Them's the breaks...literally. But there are so many known issue with
the code we do have, its really hard to see if any more pounding away at
deciphering under what conditions things lock up, with the same old
broken code, has any real value. I think is might be a good time to
realize the horse yer beating on is dead...very dead....and maybe its in
yer best interest to wait for Red Hat to give you a new horse to beat
on.

But I guess i should go home and try this...cuz lock up as fun.
We should start a new competition for the lowest uptimes for the beta.
