Well, Rusty has already an SRPM in place with module-init-tools which is
also backwards compatible with 2.4 kernels. I have downloaded and
compiled it. When running on 2.5, new module semantics are used, but if
I boot my old 2.4, the old modutils are used instead.

Well, there are still interactivity problems, e.g. process starvation
under heavy loads. With vanilla 2.5.65, playing music with XMMS and
simply dragging a window over the screen, causes serious sound skips and
halts. 2.5.65-mm4 incorporates patches that implement scheduler tunables
that allow adjusting min/max timeslices and this helps greatly.

Please, make sure "/proc/sys/kernel/modprobe" is pointing to
"/sbin/modprobe" (or wherever you've got your 2.5-compatible modprobe).
In some cases, the rc.sysinit script sets "/proc/sys/kernel/modprobe"
pointing to "/sbin/true" thus avoiding dynamic kernel modules loading.

Thanks!
