On this subject, I'd like to tell the rest of you something that might not be
commonly known. Years ago (20, 30 years ago) there was a man who lived in
Fulton, NY who was a big phonograph collector. He LOVED Edisons especially. He
had a fabulous collection, and he sold it off over a long period of time. I
bought some of it. He also painted clock faces for a living. That was his job,
restoring and decorating clock faces. A word to the wise should be sufficient.
Best to all,

Tim Fabrizio

You are very lucky Eric. I am glad it wasn't one of the people who purposely
sells fake 'antiques' on ebay. Congrats to the seller too for being a fair
person.

Folks, I almost made a big mistake. I won this through ebay and had
actually already sent the seller a email payment. I had a anoynomous
seller email me and suggested that I verify with a expert because he
was 100% sure that the clock had fake "Edison" advertising placed over
an original Baird clock.

I was able to confirm today that is indeed a fake and the seller was
devastated! He was man enought to take his medicine and willingly
refunded my payment. That definetly helps restore my faith in mankind!

Attached is the Ebay auction upl. Please study it and don't be duped in
to buying this in the future!!

Subject: [Phono-L] Speaking of Edison Clocks
Message-ID: <[email protected]>

I also had the clock expert look at the Seth Thomas clock which brought
big dollars on Ebay. See the url below. I am not sure who bought it and
do not want to start any negative implications but it was the clock
experts opinion that the clock is a newer vintage that the era of the
Edison logo would have been. He used a great example of where VFW was
used on a clock made in the 1890's. Knowing that the VFW was started in
1917 helps you understand that it can't be original to and 1890's clock.
In my case, I wanted that clock and maybe looked past the hard
questions. I had acutally emailed the seller with several points, one
being the phono's did not look right (as someone else pointed out as
well). His reply gave me a comfort zone that made me feel it was OK.
Maybe that conversation up front helped my speedy refund efforts. As
already indicated, anything is possible.
