Toward the end of the Gem line (Model E) it was planned for a Diamond B to
be fitted to the Gem with a 45? elbow but these were not successful. The
weight of the Diamond B created too much friction for the little under powered
Gem spring motor. Instead the 45? large carriage and the Model N reproducer
was supplied. The one example that appeared on eBay does appear to have been
a
Fireside carriage on a Gem B. Both were black and the Gem was not converted
to 2-4 operation thus indicating someone just slapped on the carriage that
did not belong to the machine. I have never tried to swap a large horizontal
carriage between one of my Fireside B's and Gem E as the question has never
occurred to me. One would have to assume the dimensions of the carriage were
the same and that the half-nut pitch would likewise follow.
Best wishes to all on the list, may all your finds be rare ones,
