It would not be possible, as the gearing is made for 4 minute play only. In the 2/4 machine, there is an added gear cluster that halves the speed of the feed nut, not the speed of the machine. You would need something to increase the speed of the feed nut, which would take some very customized, and I would guess expensive, engineering. Better to invest in a good 2 minute machine, and for playing 2 minute I recommend an Edison Fireside. Any other recommendations?? John

I don't buy into that "the kids don't know any better" stuff. I certainly knew when I was doing something I shouldn't have been as a small child! :-) How great it would've been to have had a phonograph in my room as a little kid, though, instead of only dreaming about them. If I have any more kids, I bet I'll put my Amberola 30 in their room as well. Speaking of said Amberola 30, I want to formally thank this list for putting me in contact with Wayne Holznagel, one of the finest individuals I've ever had the pleasure to know, though this won't come as news to most of you. I finally have my first cylinder player thanks to him, at a beyond-reasonable cost, and feel blessed to have made a dear friend in the process. If any of you ever have occasion to do business with Wayne, you won't regret it. Indeed, it may spoil you. Also speaking of the Amberola 30, is there any way of modifying one so that it can play 2-minute cylinders? Although Wayne sent me a beautiful machine in wonderful shape, it was always my intent to use it for recording and archiving cylinders, electrically and acoustically. I've already contacted Rob Lomas about an electrical pickup, but I'm mainly worried about the 4-minute feedscrew situation. Any ideas out there? It doesn't stop with babyhood, either. _______________________________________________ Phono-L mailing list [email protected] Phono-L Archive http://www.oldcrank.org/pipermail/phono-l/
