This whole discussion brings to mind another funny story about a cylinder. One year, at the silent auction at the CAPS Banquet in Buena Park, I put in the auction an Edison "Special K" cylinder box with lid. I included no cylinder--instead it was filled with Special K cereal! We had a million laughs looking at the people checking out the cylinder box and taking the lid off! This item actually sold for about 5 times the starting bid of $1! It's good to know that phono collectors have a good sense of humor!
