Paypal has always been nothing other than an insidious example of egregious
corporate greed.  I have never used it and never will.  A convenience?  HA

As I am sure you know, ebay started as 100% antiques/collectibles.  The last
time I saw statistics on this, antiques and collectibles were less than 10%
of their sales and contining to rapidly fall as a percentage.

Just lower your expections, continue to be on guard, and you should be fine.
