I think, Keith, that you have some pretty good ideas here as shared by John and Al for both wax and blue Amberol restoration. Lots of practice on more worthless broken cylinders builds your skills of course. Best of luck! I will be happy as usual to help whoever desires more extensive help at Union next week. I use "1 Time Spackling" compound from Red Devil. This stuff has a pretty low density and contains a minimal amount of moisture. Just spread it into the cavity and smooth it out with your finger. Use some rough grit sandpaper to take out rough spots after it dries. I've saved several records in my collection by using this method. You may be out of luck if you are missing too much plaster. The record's shape can get too distorted to repair easily. The flat spots you mention are very frustrating. I toyed with the idea of making some sort of braces to push out the flat spots while the spackling compound dries. Even if you managed to smooth out most of the flat spots, you would probably still hear where they were. If the record is only worth a few dollars, it's not worth the time and effort. -Phil Visit my Edison phonograph website: http://www.engineeringexpert.net/edphono.htm On 6/3/04 12:45 PM, "Carter, Keith" <keith.car...@hq.doe.gov> wrote: > Hello List, > Would like to pass these questions along to everyone. > > Is there any way to repair a black (Edison or other) cylinder if they have a > crack? > > Is there any way to repair a Blue cylinder that has missing plaster on the > inner edge? I never drove as far as Arizona, but if you can make it to Denver, you can take I-70 to Nebraska and get on I-80 and head west into Illinois. When you get into Illinois, get off I-80 and take I-88 east. Get off I-88 at IL Rt. 47 and take that north to US 20. Head west on US 20 and that will take you to Donley's Wild West Town in Union. It's a pretty straight route between here and western Nebraska and the speed limit is 70mph most of the way. Pretty boring scenery until you get to Omaha. We made it from Denver to our home in 14 hours driving about 5 mph over the speed limit most of the way. -Phil O'Keefe Visit my Edison phonograph website: http://www.engineeringexpert.net/edphono.htm On 6/3/04 9:52 PM, "mrprojection...@juno.com" <mrprojection...@juno.com> wrote: > > Hi I am leaving on this Sunday for Union from Arizona and I am Driving > Does anyone know a Good Route??????and where does people meet up on > wednsday,Thursday??????I am going to look for Rusty Edison Cylinder Parts > since that is what I like to Restore, The Rougher the Better.... > Thanx Randy > > _______________________________________________ > Phono-l mailing list > phon...@oldcrank.com > http://mail.oldcrank.com/mailman/listinfo/phono-l_oldcrank.com >
