Tom,

A well known collector in this part of the country (North Carolina) leaves
un-restorable cabinets outside exposed to the elements. After a month or so
of this treatment, he removes the veneer and sells the core, most of which
is chestnut (a very common wood during the early part of the last century).

Subject: [Phono-L] phonograph cabinets

Hello all.

Can anyone tell me what the most widely used base material woods that were
used by Edison and Victor for their cabinets that the veneer was applied to?

Tom
