I recall an incident with our power company, where they paid out a settlement to a family that had a family member electricuted buy electric cables that were not properly trimmed away from their house. The people had complained for months. Someone died and the family was awarded a big settlement. It was cheaper for the power comany to settle spot claims than to do regular maintenance and save lives!!! Same thing with the shipping companies. Toss the packages around quickly, rake in the profits, and pay out a few settlements, with no regard for the items being transported.
