It's sorta one of those items for "completist" collectors (or lucky finders) I think; after all, it's only a dub from a diamond disc master, and Edison 52444 might be somewhat more easily found.
About 30 years ago, I was shown the inside of a van FILLED with dealer-stock Blue Amberols, which were for sale at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately, I was a kid and didn't have the money, but the guy did let me buy a few for the then-high price of $3 each. There wasn't time to sort through many, so I will never know how high the numbers went, but I managed to spot and buy 5 Royal Purple cylinders and a bunch of Sousa . I was disappointed to find out that the Purples were dubs, but they are very decorative. My question: Would you PLAY a cylinder that cost you more than $800 ? (I prolly would not) ps - egret paid $609 for Edison 5700 ... I envy (a little) those who can afford to build a collection at such prices! I'm lucky to pay the gas bill this winter, which is going to preclude any record purchases for most of 2006 :( ----- Original Message ----- From: "john robles" <[email protected]> To: "Antique Phonograph List" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 14, 2006 10:02 PM Subject: Re: [Phono-L] "You're the cream of my coffee" cylinder #5642 > Oh my gawwwwwwwwd..I have always wanted this cylinder, but I guess my > dream will never be realized at these prices!
