Both is a possibility, but both will also get me killed!!

I'd say the Vic II if you can't or don't want to buy both.

The Vic II Humpback sounds better for the money and its earlier date
(especially being original as you state) gets me over the subjective edge.
Besides that, I am a sucker (in the good sense of the word) for a machine
that has family heritage associated with it. The VV-130, although quite a
glamorous machine and a real instrument of class, is somewhat of a
reinvention of the XVII/XVIII ancestors, expect that the VV-130 cabinetry
(as well as 100% of the 1xx series machines) is not as finely or accurately
crafted as the earlier machines. If the choice was between a XVII and a
VV-130, take the XVII. If it were a choice between a Vic II Humpback and an
XVII, take the XVII. That little twisted algorithm keeps making me choose
the Vic II if I were in your position.

BUT...ya know..........you could always tell a friend from Phono-L about the
machine you decide against and they could come to your rescue . Sure,
the machine wouldn't be like your own son, but it would be like a very close
nephew...

2-cents,
Walt

Subject: [Phono-L] My dilemma - which machine would you pick??

I am trying to decide between two machines, and I thought it would be fun to
throw the question out there -
Given a choice of a one-family, TOTALLY unrestored Victor II Humpback with
an aftermarket horn with 12 petals lacquered red, green and gold and bearing
a 4 digit serial number, OR a Victrola 130 (late model Victrola XVII with
the little drawer for used needles) with beautiful gold hardware, nice
original finish, either of which you could have for $1150-1250, which would
you choose??
