All,

While going through some of my Diamond Disc records, I found 2 white label #
82171 (Silent Night). On the top half of the lable, one reads "Edison Record"
and the other reads "Edison Re-Creation". Does anyone on the list know the
significance (if any) of the two different labels?

Thanks in advance for your help,
David Boruff

Hi David! As far as I've ever known, it was strictly a marketing thing,
maybe having to do with the Tone Test demonstrations? My dad once remarked
that my one prized DD, "In The Baggage Coach Ahead" by Dalhart &Co, might be
anywhere from 5 years to 50 to however many old, being a 're-creation'.
With all the pride an indignant 13-yr old could muster, I respectfully
pointed out that it was Edison's ego that titled the disc thus, that it was
no mere recording but a re-creation of the original performance! Funny how
that's the unattainable benchmark against which today's highest-fi
electronics are pitted. I'm certain the more researched folks on this list
will have a more specific answer for you, however. I've wondered about the
specifics myself.

Best,
Robert
