All, While going through some of my Diamond Disc records, I found 2 white label # 82171 (Silent Night). On the top half of the lable, one reads "Edison Record" and the other reads "Edison Re-Creation". Does anyone on the list know the significance (if any) of the two different labels? Hi David! As far as I've ever known, it was strictly a marketing thing, maybe having to do with the Tone Test demonstrations? My dad once remarked that my one prized DD, "In The Baggage Coach Ahead" by Dalhart &Co, might be anywhere from 5 years to 50 to however many old, being a 're-creation'. With all the pride an indignant 13-yr old could muster, I respectfully pointed out that it was Edison's ego that titled the disc thus, that it was no mere recording but a re-creation of the original performance! Funny how that's the unattainable benchmark against which today's highest-fi electronics are pitted. I'm certain the more researched folks on this list will have a more specific answer for you, however. I've wondered about the specifics myself.
