But didn't you all read that the tacks don't penetrate the decal, only the
surrounding paper? So the "intrinsic vale of the decal is not impacted".

Puh-lease.

Ah, but, it was (after being rolled up) "dutifully stored in a basement"
since the sixties which should easily offset the depreciation from the tack
holes. Somehow, a basement just doesn't ring consistent with how one would
store a top-shelf collectible that they thought to be worth a relative
fortune. Imagine saying, "Yes, yes, yes!!! That's worth a quarter million
dollars at least!! Quickly, roll it up and stash it in the basement!"

If the thing is worth the great fortune so rumored, I think he should, at
this point, become a very generous philanthropist, donate it to whatever
museum it was that [supposedly] wanted it, and take the $5,000,000.00 or
whatever tax benefit.

i was preparing to bid, had sold off some of my properties to raise
the capital, and was doing some last minute spot-financing when i
also noticed the thumbtacks.

so i'll not be bidding, after all.
