oops, didn't realize that was a public posting! Sorry guys! john robles <[email protected]> wrote: HI Robert THanks! I am actually looking for Indian (Hindi) recordings, so the Turkish ones aren't quite what I was hoping for. Thanks for your help though! John
Robert Wright wrote: John, I was finally able to go through my 78's and find the Indian records I mentioned... It turns out I have 3 of them, not 2, the third being on Odeon. The problem is that they are Turkish, and I don't know enough about the Eastern cultures to know if that's what you're looking for or not. All three have stark white labels, with the Odeon and Columbia having identical maroon ink, the HMV with black ink. All three have "TURK MALI" printed somewhere on the labels. In place of "His Master's Voice", the HMV says "SAHIBININ SESI", and instead of "Magic Notes", the Columbia says "Sihir Notalar" with "ALAMETI FARIKA" printed under the word "Columbia" in small letters. The artists are Nevzat Akay (Columbia RT 17876), Mustafa ?aglar (Odeon LA 270573a/b), and Zurnaci Emin Taninmis (HMV AX. 2065). The music on all three is exactly what you'd think 1940's Middle Eastern music would sound like (that scale and vocal style are unmistakably Eastern). I collect variations of the HMV label, so I'd kinda like to hang on to the HMV, but you're welcome to the Odeon and Columbia if they are what you're looking for. I'd certainly be glad to loan the HMV out if you needed it for a presentation or anything, and as always, I'm more than willing to transfer these into .wav and/or .mp3 files, restored and/or unrestored, as well as scanning the labels, if you need more information. Just let me know.
