I found Ada Florhaty in the 1920 Fed. Census for New York, Suffolk County, Hunington District, on HourGlass Court. She was living with husband Hugh, age 39, born in Ireland came to USA 1886 became a citizen 1917, he was theatrical dancer. Ada age 44 born in England came to USA 1880 became a citizen 1917, she was theatrical singer. Sheela daughter, age13 born New York, was in school. The last name was spelled Flaherty. In 1910 Ada Florhaty was in New York, New York, Manhattan Borough, Boarding House on West 14th Street. Hugh W. was 30 married 1 time been married to Ada 6 years,came to USA 1881 was alien worked actor theatrical. Ada I. was 35 married once to Hugh.came to USA 1879. is alien. Theatrical actress. Sheela age 4 daughter. Last name is spelled Flarity. Hope this helps. It at least confirms that Ada's Death Certificate is incorrect when it gives her age at the time of her parting this world as 40!! As her age in the 1920 Census is listed as 44, and we all know that a woman never usually lies about her age by giving something older then she really is!! All the biographies of Ada give her birth date as June of 1873 which would make her at least 46 or 47 (depending on what month the 1920 Census was taken). So we need to obtain a copy of her actual Birth Certificate to confirm her actual age in 1920, as it is possible of course that the Biographies are incorrect as many often are about Celebrities ages. I assume that since she came here from England, she would have had to present a valid Birth Certificate? at the time of her arrival that should be on file some where in New York? Or if not, is there a copy of her Citizenship papers somewhere from 1917? the year she became a citizen? One or the other would confirm once and for all this beloved entertainers actual date of birth, and we can move forward and correct her Death Certificate.
