[Phono-L] Edison "O" Reproducer problem

I bought an O reproducer that is pot metal.  The seller said that it has 
"great sound".  My problem is that it will not fit in the carriage on my 
Triumph.
It goes down part way and that's it.  Is it possible that there is that much 
of a difference between two carriages?
