Hello all
Hope you're starting out on a wodneful weekend.
You may remember I mentioned selling a Victor III to a guy in China and being a
bit worried about the deal due to all the eBay fraud perpetrated from
China...well I am glad to report that the gentleman transferred the money into
my bank account and all's well that ends well.? I had checked his feedback (11
transactions), but it was all phono related stuff and all good reports. I was a
bit afraid that the shipping amount (437.00) would be a deal killer, but he
paid it plus he had the generosity to pay the wire transfer fee on my end too.
By accepting the wire transfer I saved myself all those?fees that Paypal would
have snatched. A good deal all around. Whew!

Hello Brantley,

????????????? There is a Treasure Trove of Eldridge Johnnson Memorbilia &
archives residing in Dover Delaware at The Johnson Phonograph Museum, it's open
to the public & well worth a visit ! They have a fabulous collection of
Johnson's personal items including a world class collection of Victor records &
many many Victor machines, Not everything is on display but they try do to
update the the display from time to time. One of the highlights is their
collection of Victor 16's showing the various finishes available?of the time,
there are also some rare Edison & columbia machine on display including a Tin
Foil & Treadle machine. All In all a very worth while experience of so many
important items on display & a paperwork collection to die for including a
beautifull collection of early Victor Trolly Signs & Advertizing Posters, a
while back there where many pictures of the grand opening of the 2nd floor on
Phono List don't know if they are still in the archives or not ?

Regards, Jim G.

Thanks Al for the information. ?As bizarre as this case is, it is just as
amazing. ?I see Mr. Peterson no different than people that steal one time and
see how easy it is and steal again and again. ?I read on a regular basis of
bank officials, city clerks, etc., that finally get caught after stealing
thousands and thousands of dollars. ?It make one wonder how one could steal
so often before getting caught. ?These people, like Mr. Peterson just got
greedy.

I guess he felt like a kid in a candy store and just could not stop. ?It's
hard for so many of us here on this site that are honest to understand how
such a thing could happen. ?

It was a great thing that the Edison historical items were kept and
properly stored for future generations. ?It is a shame that there was no
security
in place to prevent what took place.

Being the lover of the history of phonographs, the music, and the artists,
I often wonder what happened to Eldridge Johnson's records, belongings, etc.
?I know that Edison gets a lot of attention, but with me, I would like to
know where all of the Johnson archives and legacy items are.

Also, being a tremendous fan of Billy Murray's, I often wonder what
happened to his personal belonging such as records, contracts, letters, etc.

I would love to see one big museum devoted to the history of early
recordings and yes, the history of phonographs. ?One would think that the
Smithsonian would devote a room or wing to such a marvelous thing! ?

Thanks again to all that provide this wealth of information to this thread.
?I learn something new everyday!

Have a great weekend all and keep 'em running at 78...rpms that is!!

Brantley

Great news John! It's good to know that we still have good honest people
around the world. I had the same situation when selling a Harmony phonograph
several years ago. The foreign buyer came through without a hitch. I bit
some nails for several weeks, but was well pleased when the transaction was
over. You have a great weekend also!

Yes, I have seen two recorders made into reproducers, this one appears to have
been done by a highly skilled person. I was amazed people bid it so high.
