Hello Al and list,

It looks like it has a standard speaker that has been converted to an
automatic. The top has a serial number of 18xxx but it has the round weight
from an automatic reproducer.

I examined a standard speaker with a serial number of 10xxx, it had the pin
removed from the top. The hinge had a slot machined in it and it has the thin
automatic weight. The body has no letters. It has the long original hinge
pin. The slot or cut in the hinge was machined by a skilled machinist.

On the automatic reproducer the slot that is cut in the hinge is plated, on
this one it is not as it started out as a standard speaker.

My question, did Edison upgrade standard speakers to automatics? This is the
third one I have seen like it.

Best regards,

Steve
