$2,357.99 and 28 bids later, the rigid arm Victor E sold... I'm glad I sold
mine a couple of years ago for $3,500. That machine was one of those things
that really makes the OCD behavior go wild. I bought it from an eccentric
collector in pre-eBay days. He had a number of machines, but wouldn't part with
anything. He finally agreed on a trade for that "Victor with the cobbled up
tonearm". I was elated, but didn't show it, however the horn elbow had a large
crack in it and someone had tried to solder it together. It was really beyond
salvage and looked like S#%&. That started a 15 year search for a replacement
original elbow. I finally ran across one that Lynn Bilton had, but he was
pretty fond of it. So, after paying $500 and completing the machine, I started
thinking that if something happened to me, my wife would probably sell it in a
garage sale for $25. Also, it would take an advanced collector to appreciate a
machine that was only made for 6 months, because of a poor des
ign. Anyway, I really did love that machine, but now that it was complete, the
collector in me took over and I sold it and bought a Symphonion 15" music box
with 36 discs... I have come to the conclusion that ALL collectors of "stuff"
whatever it might be, are addicted to the search for something different and
only the acquisition of something new will satisfy the addiction. My wife keeps
telling me that "I can't take it with me"... so what, I already know that, I
just like it...
