Got back from the CAPS show yesterday, saw some of you there. I thought it was
a good show, in my opinion better than last year in spite of the economy. Of
course the economy did make itself known by the softening of prices and some of
the deals I saw, such as a decent maroon Gem with a very nice horn that sold
for $550. Some paint missing from the gear cover, but a very passable machine,
and the paint on the bell of the horn was exquisite and original. I purchased
a Vic II humpback, a Columbia BE "Leader" cylinder phonograph and a beautiful
Edison A-200 Queen Anne Diamond Disc phonograph for what I considered a real
bargain price. The original cloth is in tatters, bu the machine has a mahogany
grained horn so I am not sure I will replace the cloth. The horn is the two
piece type of the early DD machines, and the bedplate is brown enamel with gold
scroll decorations in the corners. It also has an unusual start/stop mechanism,
unlike any other DD. I
will upload photos.
There were a variety of nice machines at the show, Vic VIs, Operas, etc. Here
is a link to a sampling of the phonos available.
