Bob and Curt, If I do have an Edison H Stylus put in my Lyric reproducer by Steven Medved, would I still be able to play 2 minute record with out damage to them? The Edison 4 minute diamond stylus doesn't work on Edison 2 minute records, does it? I have always used a K reproducer so I can switch between 2 and 4 minute cylinders. This is all a learning experience for me about Columbia reproducers and conversion kits and the change in stylus needed. Thanks to you both for your help, I really appreciate it very much. Honestly even though I might not post always post on Phono-L, I do get a lot out of it and everyone that I have met here has been more than helpful. I must say if it was not for Joan and Rob Rolfs in 1993 and how they introduced me to thier new Charter Chapter of M.A.P.S. in Wisconsin when I was only 26. Without meeting them I would have missed out on one of the greatist joys in my life. Now that I have been collecting for 19 years and 45 years old, I still learn new things and always will and other than that I feel I have met some of the nicest and honest people here that always reach out to me when I am in need of help. Thanks to you both Bob and Curt, and thanks to everyone else that has made this a very enjoyable experience! Kenneth Keeton PS: Sometime I will have to post here the story of how I just happened to walk in to collecting phonographs and how it was for me at an early age. I feel I have a very interesting story that goes to show how wonderful our collecting community is.

Ken,If you do find a 2/4 conversion kit, you will also need a 4 minute stylus in your Lyric reproducer. Finding a 4 min original Columbia reproducer is another needle in a haystack and not cheap. I sent my original 2 minute Lyric to Steven Medved and he installed an Edison H needle bar and stylus, along with a copper diaphragm, which works perfectly and solved my problem. Steven is on the list frequently, so when you need him, just ask... he does great work.Curt > Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2012 14:48:47 -0700 > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [Phono-L] Fwd: Looking for info or a 2/4 minute attachmet. > > Curt, > Thanks for all the information. I printed it out so I can refer back to it later. I do that with some posts so that it is easy for me to remember and cataloged. > Thanks again, > Kenneth > PS: I book marked your welcome page. > > > ________________________________ > From: Vinyl Visions <[email protected]> > To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> > Sent: Tuesday, July 24, 2012 5:05 PM > Subject: Re: [Phono-L] Fwd: Looking for info or a 2/4 minute attachmet. > > > Ken, > If you would like to see what a BE conversion looks like, go to our webpage: http://www.carolinaphonosociety.com/ After clicking on ENTER, you will be on the page with a woman and Nipper - at the top of the page, click on the link "Columbia BF 2-4 minute conversion" > I recently did the same thing you are attempting to do with your BE, to my BF machine. However, I could not find the actual BF conversion kit and adapted a BE conversion kit to work. The main difference between the two is the length of the feedscrew. The BE is approx. 8" long and the BF is approx. 10" long - the adaptation would not have worked in reverse - a BF kit will not work on a BE. > No one seemed to know much about Columbia 2/4 conversions when I was researching mine earlier this year, so I have learned quite a bit about them. First, if you find a kit, it has to include a feedscrew with the gearing attached and an adapter plate with a locking post for the conversion to work. Make sure all the parts are there before purchasing one, because they are a needle in a haystack to find. The pics of my machine with the BE adapter on it are on the above website. > Although, Columbia made the adapter kits to be used with a number of machines, they apparently did not make many of them because the cost for the adapter was almost as much as the original machine and Columbia did not make 4 minute cylinders (other than the Indestructible brand). It was also at the end of the cylinder age, when most people were starting to opt for disc records. > Curt > > > Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2012 11:32:56 -0700 > > From: [email protected] > > To: [email protected] > > Subject: Re: [Phono-L] Fwd: Looking for info or a 2/4 minute attachmet. > > > > David, > > I went back and check with the Columbia Phonograph Companion Vol. 1, and you are very right. There was more than one attachmemt made to work. on different machines. > > Oops, Thank you for correcting me. I should have double checked my facts before talking out of foggy memory and scatchy mental pictues. Still I would love to find a BE 2/4 minute attachment. I wander if the other attachment for the BK might work on my Columbia Oxford, it was based on the BK but my Oxford Machinehad has the bedplate and gearing all look to be identical to the BK. The Oxford case is plain with trim around bedplate and base of machine. It is correct to be without decals of any kind other than the double pinsripe on the Japaned black lacker bedplate. Information passed on to me by Tim Fabrizio about the interesting fact that they did not decal the case at all, just plane oak. The tone arm conmected to the horn support is painted glossy black to match the backmount and bedplate, the elbow connecting to the reproducer and the slide tube are nickeled. The slide tube just turns under and connects to the elbow unlike the BKT > > that has a "U" Tube at the end of the slide. I have a really nice larger Columbia Black Petals Horn with raised accents aound each petal and there this is a double yellow rose decal on each of the petals too. I really like the way it looks with the black parts of the machine. > > > > I will attach a photo with this posting so you can see the machine. I am quite proud of it as I am sure you can tell. But not as proud as my mahogany Triumph and Home model A long case. > > Any ways David, I would like to say thanks for correcting me, I have learned many things from the post that have been made here. > > Kenneth Keeton > > > > PS:The Picture of my Oxford Cylinder Phonograph is as an Attachment within this post. > > > > ________________________________ > > From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> > > To: [email protected] > > Sent: Monday, July 23, 2012 9:59 PM > > Subject: Fwd: [Phono-L] Looking for info or a 2/4 minute attachmet. > > > > > > Ken, > > > > I believe the 2/4 minute attachment for a BE, BF, and BG is different than used on the BK, BO and BQ. I think I have a complete 2/4 minute attachment for the later, but I think it is different than what you need. If you are interested in the attachment for a BK, BO, or BQ, let me know and I'll locate it and send some pictures. > > > > Regards, > > David Boruff > > > > > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: Ken aka: OnATorrent <[email protected]> > > To: Antique Phonograph List <[email protected]> > > Sent: Mon, Jul 23, 2012 9:34 am > > Subject: [Phono-L] Looking for info or a 2/4 minute attachmet. > > > > > > Hello all, > > > > I posted a message several days ago and saw no replys.
