I only know of ancient, unused browsers. If you (plural)
know that other browsers exist which only handle 2-digit
years, then please share your knowledge.

You missed that I used the future tense, didn't you?
There is little point in maintaining backwards compatibility
if it can be established that there is no need for it
anymore.
