It was painless in sense that there was nothing to change in client code
except for #include <expat.h> instead of those two headers.

Be sure to make good configure detection for existing system library.
You can just borrow it from Midgard library, it works fine for us for 
many systems with different packaged versions of Expat (OpenBSD,
FreeBSD, Debian, RH, Mandrake/MandrakeCooker, Conectiva, etc).
